MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
IN THE PAST, I PAINTED ON A WIDE VARIETY OF SURFACES, INCLUDING CANVAS, FOUND WOODEN BOARDS, AND MASONITE/HARDBOARD.
IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, I HAVE PAINTED ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY ON SURFACES KNOWN AS HARDBOARD, WHICH INCLUDE MASONITE, MDF, PRESSPAPIER (EUROPE).

I HAVE THE BOARDS CUT TO SIZE, AND THEN INSTALL UNDERFRAMING TO THE REVERSE SIDES, TO PROVIDE RIGIDITY.
ALL SURFACES ARE COATED WITH OIL PRIMER BEFORE PAINTING.
OIL MAKES THE BEST ADHESION TO THESE WOOD PRODUCTS, ALTHOUGH THE CONSTRUCTION GLUE, IS WATER-BASED WOOD GLUE.
BACKGROUNDS ARE OFTEN METAL LEAF, SUCH AS COPPER, ALUMINUM, OR COMPOSITION GOLD.
THE INHERENT QUALITY OF OPAQUE OIL COLORS, STRATEGICALLY BLOCKING THE REFLECTION OF THE METAL, IS FOUND IN A LOT OF MY WORK.
JUXTAPOSED WITH THAT, INCLUDES MAKING TRANSPARENT GLAZES TO GO OVER THE LEAF. THIS ALLOWS FOR WATCHING THE LIGHT BOUNCE ON THE METAL, GOING THROUGH THE TRANSPARENT COLOR.
THE WORK MAY BE PAINTED ON METAL LEAF, OR A PAINTED BACKGROUND, OR PAPIER MACHE.
ANOTHER ELEMENT OF MY WORK IS TO SHOW SHINY AND MATTE AT THE SAME TIME.
SO FAR, MY WORK IS WITHOUT TOPCOAT, TO ALLOW FOR THIS QUALITY.
HOWEVER, I AM WILLING TO VARNISH.
MOST SIZES FOR THE TIME BEING CONSIST OF BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
100 x 150 cm, 90 x 120 cm, 80 x 100 cm, 61 x 91.5 cm.
